Welcome — We’re Glad You’re Here

Trying a new church can feel like a lot. What should I wear? Will I know what to do? Will anyone talk to me? Will I feel awkward?

At St. James Episcopal Church in Manitowoc, we get it. And we want you to know this first:

You don’t have to have anything figured out to belong here.

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after a long break, healing from church hurt, or simply looking for a community that feels grounded and genuine, you are welcome.

What to Expect When You Visit

Worship That Is Thoughtful, Beautiful, and Real

Our worship is rooted in the Episcopal tradition — which means it’s structured but not stiff, reverent but not intimidating, and always centered on grace. That goes for not knowing the words!

  • Comfortable worship that blends prayer, scripture, music, and thoughtful reflection.

  • No dress code—come in what makes you comfortable. You’ll see jeans, t-shirts, suits, dresses, and more!

  • Families and kids are welcome- ask at the door if you need anything for little ones or a kid-friendly space to change or feed.

  • Communion (all baptized persons are welcome to receive or simply come forward for a blessing)

  • Friendly folks to help you find the sanctuary, restrooms, or the gathering space after worship.

  • You don’t need to know when to stand or sit. You can follow along, or just take it in. No one will quiz you. No one will single you out.

Who We Are (and Who We’re Not)

St. James is a warm, open-hearted, inclusive Episcopal community.

That means:

  • You don’t have to agree on everything to belong

  • Questions are welcome

  • Curiosity is encouraged

  • All are affirmed and respected.

We’re people who love tradition and growth,

faith and honesty, prayer and action.

Want to take the next step?

You don’t have to — but if you want to, here are a few easy options:

  • Come back another Sunday!

  • Join in on a Bible study or book group

  • Talk with our clergy or a longtime member about what you want to do and how you want to connect and grow

  • Sign up for emails so you can explore at your own pace

Belonging doesn’t happen all at once. It grows — slowly, honestly, and naturally. We are excited to show you how you belong here!
