St James Book Group - Wednesday 10/27 at 7PM (Zoom and in-person)
The St James Book Group plans to meet in the St James Fellowship Hall and via Zoom on Wednesday, October 27 at 7PM. Those gathering in-person should wear masks and spread out. Books are available through the library, most book stores, and through online retailers, and Kindle and audiobooks are available. As always, even if you have not read the book you are welcome to join in the discussion. If you have technical difficulties contact Amma Diane Murray 920-860-5152.

The book being read and discussed this month is A Most Beautiful Thing by Arshay Cooper.

This is a story about triumphing over adversity, of mentorship and personal investment, of sports and endurance, and of faith—in yourself, in others, and your team. Arshay Cooper was part of the first all-Black high school rowing team, a feat that landed him on the cover of the Chicago Tribune. It would also catapult his life that at one time seemed destined for destruction—“it takes a village to raise a child, and our village is gang members, drug dealers, drug addicts, and prostitutes. It’s easy to become a product of this”—to higher education and the professional world. At first the very thought of a Black rowing crew was laughable to Cooper and his friends: “you ain’t gonna get black people rowing down the lake like slaves.” But the discipline and commitment of the coaches and the opportunities they promised drew him in. “I am done with my old life. I choose rowing. I choose a future.” And so begins the pursuit of rowing in unison, which would expose Cooper and his teammates to college campuses, different states, internships and jobs. In some ways this is a memoir of underdogs fighting their way to the top, but it’s also about how an entire population is left out of the opportunity loop and how a seemingly small thing like sports can change lives. ~Al Woodworth, Amazon Book Review

Bible Study of 2 Corinthians - Sundays 8:30-9:30AM (Zoom)
On October 3 we’ll begin a study of the 13 chapters of 2 Corinthians, which will take us through the end of the year. Use any bible translation(s) you like; no other book/guide needed. We read through and discuss one chapter each week, with the following questions in mind: 1) What stands out to you in the passage we are studying?; 2) What do you have a question about or want to know more about?; 3) What can you apply from the passage to your daily faith journey?; and 4) If you were to talk to a friend about this passage what would you talk about?

Info & Video from our friends at Painting Pathways Clubhouse
For approximately ten years Painting Pathways Clubhouse has held an annual Fall fundraising breakfast. Typically, it is scheduled during Mental Illness Awareness Week, which takes place during the first full week of October and culminates with World Mental Health Day on October 10. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, they were forced to cancel this event for the past two years. This year they opted for a Zoom presentation which took place October 7. They recorded the event which you may view by clicking on the link below. You will need to cut and paste the Access Passcode in order to view it. The video showcases not only their beautiful new building, but also several incredibly moving testimonies of mental health recovery.

St James has partnered with Painting Pathways Clubhouse since it was founded. In 2020, we provided a home for them while their new building was being constructed. We continue to collect donations for them as part of our 3-year pledge. If you'd like to donate, please send/drop off your check at the church with "Painting Pathways" in the memo.

Thanks for your support!
We appreciate your continued financial support while we are being the church in this different way. Checks can still be mailed to the church, and are regularly counted and deposited. You can also set up payments through your bank (most offer this for free). Online options are available with the link below. We know that these are difficult times for some, and we understand if you are unable to support the church financially. Please contact Amma Diane if you need help connecting to assistance or resources.

Our special offering in odd-numbered months (January, March, May, July, September, November) goes to Painting Pathways Clubhouse, helping those in our community with a diagnosed mental illness. Our special offering in even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December) goes to the Rector's discretionary fund, helping those in need. Please label your gifts accordingly.
St James Weekly and email list timing
St James Weekly is included in two emails per week, and mailed once per week. When sharing information about projects, programs, and events please send the info as early as possible so we are able to promote over a longer period of time, when appropriate. (To help limit the burden on everybody’s inboxes, we intentionally send only two emails per week to our email list, unless there is a death or other urgent matter.)

Do you ever have trouble clicking our links?
For a variety of technical reasons, links in the emails we send may sometimes malfunction. These are often due to incompatible updates or security settings on various device, software, and web sites. If you click a link in our emails (or attached PDFs) and it doesn't work properly, type in the link manually. Open your web browser and type in the exact link (don't add www or anything else). Manually typing the link should always work properly. We use customized shorter URLs in the format "go.mysjec.com/_______" that make manually typing links easier than the longer URLs for most events. If you encounter a link that doesn't work when you type it in manually, please contact Tony (text, call, or email info@mysjec.com). Thanks!
We appreciate your feedback
Thank you to everybody who has taken the time to participate in our various opportunities to engage remotely for worship, sharing, learning, and connection. Until further notice we'll be maintaining our schedule on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as well as other special services and remote gatherings. Thank you for watching/listening! Thank you for commenting and engaging with each other! And thank you for liking and sharing our videos, Facebook page, and YouTube channel to help spread the word!

We appreciate your feedback about any of these new technologies we are implementing. If you had any technical issues or technical questions, please let us know. Please email your feedback and questions to info@mysjec.com
