Opportunities to worship, share, learn, and stay connected at St James Episcopal Church in Manitowoc.
Adopt A Family ministry sign-up starts November 8!
For the 3rd year, St James is again participating in this outreach to our community. We were awed by your generosity the past 2 years, and this year the need is even greater! We are adopting 2 small families this year.  A single mom and 2 preschoolers (5 and 2), and a couple with 2 children (5 and 2).

The Salvation Army asks that a minimum of $50 be spent on each individual. This is no small amount, so we encourage you to team up and go together to select gifts for your person. We will also have other small gifts (gift cards are especially appreciated—you can use Script!!) that can be given which the Army uses for individuals.

Since we are not meeting together physically, we need another way to distribute names. Curbside delivery is our option! On November 8 (no Packer game conflict!), we will be in the St James’ parking lot from 11:30AM—12:30PM. We will be socially distanced and wearing masks. You can ask Karleen Cole to help you with the family members, and Anne Schuette will assist with the individual gifts.

All gifts are due back to the church parking lot on November 29 (again no Packer game conflict) from 11:30AM-12:30PM. Remember that gifts must be UNWRAPPED. This allows the parents to see what the children are receiving and gives them the chance to wrap them. (By the way, donating gift wrap is a wonderful way to participate.) Amma Diane will bless the gifts before we take them to the Salvation Army that week.

If you cannot (or do not want to) come to the church to pick up a name and/or return the gifts and you want to participate, but do not want to be out shopping, please, please let Karleen or Anne do it for you. We are happy to stop by your home, no contact please, to drop off names or pick up gifts. If you have questions, please call Karleen at 920-629-0435 or email her at [email protected]

Food pantry donations needed -- collecting November 8 & 29!
Last year we had great participation in our Reverse Advent Calendar, collecting items to be donated to support local food pantry Peter’s Pantry. Poverty and hunger have increased over the course of this year, so donations are appreciated! On Sundays November 8 and 29 form 11:30-12:30PM, Amma Diane will be at the church along with collection bins for your donations of non-perishable food items and personal care items. (These are the same days/times as the adopt-a-family pick-up and drop-off.) You can also make a financial contribution (make your check out to St James and put “food pantry” in memo.)
St James Weekly
In addition to items in this email, the attached St James Weekly PDF includes a variety of other announcements, weekly Vestry Notes, and our weekly prayer list.

Learn & Discuss: Labyrinths - Sunday 11/8 at 11AM
Earlier in the year we introduced the idea of creating some form of labyrinth at St James. Different than a maze, labyrinths have been used by Christians for centuries as a spiritual tool. Join us at 11AM on Sunday, November 8 for an opportunity to learn more about labyrinths and then discuss and share ideas we might use to implement a labyrinth at St James. Signing up in advance is not required, but if you let Amma Diane know that you are interested, she will provide you with materials in advance (especially helpful if you’ll be phoning in). Call or email her to let her know.

Do you ever have trouble clicking our links?
For a variety of technical reasons, links in the emails we send may sometimes malfunction. These are often due to incompatible updates or security settings on various device, software, and web sites. If you click a link in our emails (or attached PDFs) and it doesn't work properly, type in the link manually. Open your web browser and type in the exact link (don't add www or anything else). Manually typing the link should always work properly. We use customized shorter URLs in the format "go.mysjec.com/_______" that make manually typing links easier than the longer URLs for most events. If you encounter a link that doesn't work when you type it in manually, please contact Tony (text, call, or email [email protected]). Thanks!
Women's & Men's monthly meetings 11/14
These groups typically gather monthly on the second Saturday for an hour of fellowship. Groups are meeting virtually, for the time being.

WOMEN: Saturday 11/14 at 9AM
Ladies, grab your coffee or tea and pull up to your computer/phone. This month we will continue talking about reflections or books that we have read and take a look at some of the saints of the Church... or perhaps real life saints that you might know. If you need more information on saints go to Wikipedia and there is a complete listing of saints in The Episcopal Church and calendar. We had an excellent discussion last month. Please join us! For more information, talk to Chris Eggert-Rosenthal.

St James Becoming Beloved Community
race conversation continues Sunday 11/15 at 11AM
We've gathered on 9/13 and 10/18 to share our thoughts following the 7-week Becoming Beloved Community series and where God may be leading us in response. Participants want to continue the conversation about race and invite others to join at 11AM on Sunday 11/15. This series is designed to help us grow as a community of reconcilers, justice-makers, and healers who share a passion for the dream of God.

St James Book Group meeting Wednesday 11/18 at 7PM
The Book Group meeting date for this month is Wednesday, November 18 at 7PM—to accommodate Thanksgiving, even though none of us are planning to go anywhere! Our November book is "The Tenth of December" by George Saunders. It's a collection of 10 short stories that are inter-related in some way. To quote from the book jacket summary: these stories "fulfill Chekhov's dictum that 'art should prepare us for tenderness.'" Thanks to the Manitowoc Public Library inter-library loan program we have 10 copies of this book.   Use the info below to participate. Please call Anne Schuette (920-242-2819) to obtain a copy of the book, if you have any questions, or if you have problems connecting on the evening of the meeting.

Our St James Thanksgiving traditions will continue in a new way this year. Join via phone or computer starting at 10:30AM on 11/26. We’ll have a brief (~15 min) prayer service followed by social time. Eleanor Agnew will help us with some fun, as well. We’ll wrap up around noon, though could continue longer if people are interested.

Thanks for your support!
We appreciate your continued financial support while we are being the church in this different way. Checks can still be mailed to the church, and are regularly counted and deposited. You can also set up payments through your bank (most offer this for free). Online options are available with the link below. We know that these are difficult times for some, and we understand if you are unable to support the church financially. Please contact Amma Diane if you need help connecting to assistance or resources.

St James Weekly and email list timing
St James Weekly is included in two emails per week, and mailed once per week. When sharing information about projects, programs, and events please send the info as early as possible so we are able to promote over a longer period of time, when appropriate. (To help limit the burden on everybody’s inboxes, we intentionally send only two emails per week to our email list, unless there is a death or other urgent matter.)

We appreciate your feedback
Thank you to everybody who has taken the time to participate in our various opportunities to engage remotely for worship, sharing, learning, and connection. Until further notice we'll be maintaining our schedule on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as well as other special services and remote gatherings. Thank you for watching/listening! Thank you for commenting and engaging with each other! And thank you for liking and sharing our videos, Facebook page, and YouTube channel to help spread the word!

We appreciate your feedback about any of these new technologies we are implementing. If you had any technical issues or technical questions, please let us know. Please email your feedback and questions to [email protected]
