Ash Wednesday is coming 2/17
ASH WEDNESDAY COMMUNITY WORSHIP 2/17
On Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021 our ELCA, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, and UCC faith communities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers are joining together for the 15th annual Ash Wednesday Community Worship. Calvary Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, Peace United Church of Christ, St James Episcopal Church, St Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish, and St Paul Lutheran Church will be participating this year. This year’s host congregation is Peace United Church of Christ—due to the pandemic, we’ll be offering the service online.

You can watch on Facebook or YouTube at 6:30PM (or anytime after) using our usual links: go.mysjec.com/facebook OR go.mysjec.com/youtube

OPPORTUNITIES TO RECEIVE ASHES ON ASH WEDNESDAY 2/17
Since we aren’t able to gather in person for this ecumenical event, our congregations are offering multiple opportunities throughout the day to receive ashes in Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Just as anybody who attends our annual community service in-person can receive ashes from any of the participating clergy, we invite you to receive ashes at whatever time and location you like. All are welcome at any of these options.

ASHES AT HOME: St James Episcopal Church will be delivering ashes to households of the congregation prior to Ash Wednesday, for those who'd like to apply ashes at home while watching the service online or reading the bulletin.

ASHES-TO-GO: Please stay in your vehicle and wear masks. Clergy will come to your vehicle.
  • First Presbyterian, Peace UCC, & St James Episcopal churches will be offering ashes-to-go together in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot (502 N 8th St, Manitowoc) from 6:30AM-8:00AM & 4:00PM-6:00PM.
  • Calvary Lutheran Church (1921 Adams St, Two Rivers) will be offering ashes-to-go from 12:00PM-1:00PM.
  • St Paul Lutheran Church (2601 S 10th St, Manitowoc) will be offering ashes to go from 5:00PM-6:00PM.

PARKING LOT SERVICE: Please stay in your vehicle.
  • First Lutheran Church (521 N 8th St, Manitowoc) will offer 15-minute services in their parking lot at 12:00PM & 6:00PM. Participants listen on their car radios.
St James Becoming Beloved Community
race conversation continues Sunday 2/21 at 11AM
We've gathered on 9/13, 10/18, 11/15, 12/20, and 1/17 to share our thoughts following the 7-week Becoming Beloved Community series and where God may be leading us in response. Participants want to continue the conversation about race and invite others to join at 11AM on Sunday 2/21. This series is designed to help us grow as a community of reconcilers, justice-makers, and healers who share a passion for the dream of God.

Thanks for your support!
We appreciate your continued financial support while we are being the church in this different way. Checks can still be mailed to the church, and are regularly counted and deposited. You can also set up payments through your bank (most offer this for free). Online options are available with the link below. We know that these are difficult times for some, and we understand if you are unable to support the church financially. Please contact Amma Diane if you need help connecting to assistance or resources.

Our special offering in odd-numbered months (January, March, May, July, September, November) goes to Painting Pathways Clubhouse, helping those in our community with a diagnosed mental illness. Our special offering in even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December) goes to the Rector's discretionary fund, helping those in need. Please label your gifts accordingly.
Celebrating Our Gifts
This month we are Celebrating Our Gifts, including with a special 10AM Worship service on Sunday, November 15. The Vestry sent a mailing to all households on November 1, including updates and celebration of the progress we've made on many of our St James Tree of Life goals this year. (You can download a PDF of the mailing and pledge card using the links below.) We invite you to continue to support our shared mission and ministry by making your financial commitment for 2021, as you are able. Your pledges help us develop our 2021 budget—please return your card by mail or drop in the church mail slot.

St James Weekly and email list timing
St James Weekly is included in two emails per week, and mailed once per week. When sharing information about projects, programs, and events please send the info as early as possible so we are able to promote over a longer period of time, when appropriate. (To help limit the burden on everybody’s inboxes, we intentionally send only two emails per week to our email list, unless there is a death or other urgent matter.)

Do you ever have trouble clicking our links?
For a variety of technical reasons, links in the emails we send may sometimes malfunction. These are often due to incompatible updates or security settings on various device, software, and web sites. If you click a link in our emails (or attached PDFs) and it doesn't work properly, type in the link manually. Open your web browser and type in the exact link (don't add www or anything else). Manually typing the link should always work properly. We use customized shorter URLs in the format "go.mysjec.com/_______" that make manually typing links easier than the longer URLs for most events. If you encounter a link that doesn't work when you type it in manually, please contact Tony (text, call, or email info@mysjec.com). Thanks!

We appreciate your feedback
Thank you to everybody who has taken the time to participate in our various opportunities to engage remotely for worship, sharing, learning, and connection. Until further notice we'll be maintaining our schedule on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as well as other special services and remote gatherings. Thank you for watching/listening! Thank you for commenting and engaging with each other! And thank you for liking and sharing our videos, Facebook page, and YouTube channel to help spread the word!

We appreciate your feedback about any of these new technologies we are implementing. If you had any technical issues or technical questions, please let us know. Please email your feedback and questions to info@mysjec.com
