Video Discussion Series "A Year in the Life" - Sundays 8:30-9:30AM
We meet on Zoom from 8:30-9:30AM so those who wish to attend Worship in the church have time to get to church by 10AM. We will take July 4 off.
Amma Diane writes: We sometimes use our Sunday morning study/discussion time to view short videos. The Episcopal Church (TEC) provided us with the short series The Way of Love a couple of years ago that we watched and found very fruitful. There is a new series that TEC has put together that I think will meet some of what I hear people in our bible study asking for: ways to learn about what it means to be an Episcopal Christian, the St James Manitowoc community in the Diocese of Fond du Lac, and sharing our stories in our 2020-2021 context.

"A Year in the Life" Video Storytelling is a new web series from TEC. It documents how Episcopal churches, schools, and ministries have navigated a very contentious and difficult year. The series covers topics like food insecurity, education, worship through restrictions, clergy calls, and more. Each episode includes reflection materials to help the viewer consider how the last year or so has affected them and their neighbors. What I have seen of these videos so far is very good. They range from 1 minute to 9 minutes, so we may watch more than one on some Sundays.

We will also add some Episcopal Church basics to these discussions, using the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) as a reference. If you do not have a BCP, please let Amma Diane know and she will make sure you have one. (We are also retooling our Episcopal 101 class into a series that we’ll plan Sunday mornings this coming October.) This will be a program that people can join at any time, so if you have to miss a session here or there, all will be well. If you would like a BCP or have other questions, please contact Amma Diane at 920-860-5152

St James Book Group meets Wednesday 6/30 at 7PM
This month the St James Book Club will meet one week later than usual, on Wednesday, June 30, from 7-8PM, meeting via Zoom or the telephone. If you would like to borrow a book from the inter-library loan, please contact Anne Schuette at 920-242-2819. This book is also available on Kindle and in audiobook format. Please feel free to come to our group even if you have not read the book. Invite a friend. If you have technical difficulties Amma Diane Murray 920-860-5152 will try to help you with these.

This month's book is The King of Confidence by Miles Harvey. A review quote from the New York Times describes this book as, "A Tale of Utopian Dreamers, Frontier Schemers, True Believers, False Prophets, and the Murder of an American Monarch. Miles Harvey’s jaunty, far-ranging history of the 19th-century con man and prophet James Jesse Strang. Despite the frontier setting, there is something eerily contemporary about Harvey’s portrait of a real estate huckster with monarchic ambitions, a creative relationship to debt and a genius for mass media. Until his assassination in 1856, Strang ruled over a breakaway Mormon colony on Lake Michigan’s Beaver Island, where he was crowned “King of Earth and Heaven.” King Strang, as the press delighted in calling him, tried his hand at various roguish trades — lawyer, newspaperman, prophet, pirate, state legislator — but his true gift was for the pure flimflam of American celebrity."

St James Weekly and email list timing
St James Weekly is included in two emails per week, and mailed once per week. When sharing information about projects, programs, and events please send the info as early as possible so we are able to promote over a longer period of time, when appropriate. (To help limit the burden on everybody’s inboxes, we intentionally send only two emails per week to our email list, unless there is a death or other urgent matter.)

Do you ever have trouble clicking our links?
For a variety of technical reasons, links in the emails we send may sometimes malfunction. These are often due to incompatible updates or security settings on various device, software, and web sites. If you click a link in our emails (or attached PDFs) and it doesn't work properly, type in the link manually. Open your web browser and type in the exact link (don't add www or anything else). Manually typing the link should always work properly. We use customized shorter URLs in the format "go.mysjec.com/_______" that make manually typing links easier than the longer URLs for most events. If you encounter a link that doesn't work when you type it in manually, please contact Tony (text, call, or email info@mysjec.com). Thanks!

We appreciate your feedback

Thank you for commenting and engaging with each other! And thank you for liking and sharing our videos, Facebook page, and YouTube channel to help spread the word!

We appreciate your feedback about any of these new technologies we are implementing. If you had any technical issues or technical questions, please let us know. Please email your feedback and questions to info@mysjec.com
